ABOUT THE POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP
The Asymmetry Postdoctoral Fellowship in Chinese and Sinophone Contemporary Art is a fully funded, two-year placement starting in September 2024. This fellowship is part of the Courtauld x Asymmetry Chinese and Sinophone Contemporary Art Research Programme. It offers an early-career scholar the chance to conduct innovative research in Chinese and Sinophone contemporary art and visual culture within transnational and transversal contexts.
The Fellow will work on an independent research project aimed at publication or other significant outputs. Mentorship will be provided by Dr. Wenny Teo, Senior Lecturer in Modern and Contemporary Asian Art at The Courtauld. The Fellow will gain teaching experience, participate in the research culture at The Courtauld and other UK institutions, and assist with The Asymmetry Extinguished Lecture Series and the annual Asymmetry International Symposium. The fellowship includes immersion in Asymmetry’s network of curators, writers, and scholars.
Applicants should have a doctorate in art history or related disciplines and a strong research portfolio in Chinese and/or Sinophone contemporary art. The successful candidate will engage with critical histories, multiple geographies, and intersections with issues such as gender, race, the built environment, political ecology, digital culture, and technology.
