Open Call for Curatorial Projects

Overview

The Latinx Project at New York University invites curators to submit proposals for exhibitions scheduled for Spring 2026 and Spring 2027. Proposals may focus on any theme relevant to Latinx contemporary practices or specifically address the theme of “Rasquachismo in the 21st Century.” Selected curators will receive mentorship, access to NYU’s research resources, and connections to a national network of artists, scholars, and collaborators.

Rasquachismo in the 21st Century

This category invites curatorial proposals that explore the concept of rasquachismo, as introduced by Dr. Tomás Ybarra-Frausto. Proposals should examine how this aesthetic, attitude, or creative source continues to inspire resistance, creativity, and joy within contemporary Latinx art. Curators are encouraged to investigate how contemporary artists activate rasquachismo in their work, challenging aesthetic hierarchies and blending high and low cultural references.

General Category

Curators may also submit proposals on any theme relevant to Latinx contemporary practices. Proposals should explore issues of importance to the evolving U.S. Latinx community, offering conceptually strong and nuanced narratives. The inclusion of a diverse roster of artists is essential, and proposals must be original.
