The Daniel W. Dietrich II Fellow in Contemporary Art

How You Will Contribute

The Contemporary Art Department is seeking applicants for the Daniel W. Dietrich II Fellow in Contemporary Art. This rotating position works closely with other curatorial staff within the department under the supervision of the Department Head. The Fellow will assist with planning and realizing a number of installations; conduct research related to collection objects and exhibitions; and contribute to documentation, scholarship, and conservation projects related to the Dietrich Contemporary Art gifts.

As the fellowship is designed to provide professional training for emerging talent, the Fellow will also be fully integrated into the life and work of the department, as well as the Museum at large. The Fellowship will run from September 2018 through September 2019, with the possibility of renewal for a second year. International candidates are encouraged to apply.

Specifically, you will be…

• Assisting research and planning for installations of contemporary art, including presentation of works from the Daniel W. Dietrich bequest.
• Conducting research on Dietrich gifts and managing object files.
• Working with conservation on projects related to the Dietrich gifts
• Coordinating with curatorial staff to support various projects within the Contemporary Art Department.

Your diverse background includes…

• Masters or PhD focusing on the History of Art after 1950 and/or contemporary curatorial practice.
• An acute attention to detail, an ability to work collaboratively, and a keen interest in developing a career in museums are preferred.
• Upholds the professional standards of his/her field; acts in a manner that is consistent with the best interests of the Museum; and protects and enhances its reputation and standing within the community of arts professionals and institutions.
• Physical Requirements:              
  • Minor lifting and bending (lifting of no more than 20 pounds).
  • Ability to sit for up to seven hours.
  • Able to regularly set up, adjust, and operate a computer/keyboard and other office equipment used to generate work/transmit data.
• Other Requirements:
  • Successful completion of post-offer pre-employment background check consisting of a criminal history.
