Senior Registrar of Exhibitions

MoMA PS1 is seeking an experienced Senior Registrar to manage all registration tasks related to loans, exhibitions, and installations. This role requires overseeing the planning, documentation, and logistics of exhibition programs while ensuring museum best practices are maintained for the care and safety of fine art.

Key Responsibilities:

• Logistics Management: Coordinate transportation, customs clearance, packing, and courier needs for borrowed artworks.
• Budget Oversight: Develop and manage registration budgets, tracking expenses and providing regular updates.
• Loan Agreements: Issue and negotiate loan agreements in collaboration with internal teams and external parties.
• Exhibition Planning: Plan installation and deinstallation schedules, coordinating with various teams for art handling, courier needs, and shipping deadlines.
• Art Handling: Ensure best practices for art movement, installation, and storage, including maintaining condition reports and images.
• Security and Insurance: Implement security protocols for exhibitions and manage the museum’s fine art insurance policy.
• Inventory Management: Maintain on-site and off-site storage inventories, including coordinating deliveries and issuing insurance certificates.

Qualifications:

• Experience: Minimum of 5 years in managing exhibitions, including logistics for packing, transportation, and customs clearance.
• Skills: Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills. Must be detail-oriented and able to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Technical Skills: Proficiency with museum databases (TMS preferred) and experience with Microsoft and Google tools.
• Team Collaboration: Ability to work across museum departments and manage skilled teams during exhibition installations.
• Flexibility: Availability to respond to art-related incidents during off-hours.

Compensation and Benefits:

• Salary: $75,000 – $80,000 annually.
• Benefits: Includes 20 days paid vacation, 10 days paid sick leave, 11 paid holidays, and 3 personal days. The position also offers participation in a 401(k) and pension plan, life insurance, medical/health (including vision and dental), transit, and dependent care FSA.
