Job Overview

Responsible for developing, researching, exhibiting, and publishing collections of Native American art at Mia.

Responsibilities

Interpreting Collections: Curate gallery displays and didactic materials to interpret the museum’s Native American art collections. Conduct training for museum guides to accurately represent the collection.

Research and Exhibition: Conduct research and mount special exhibitions with accompanying publications to contribute to the knowledge about Native American art.

Collection Care: Oversee the proper handling, installation, and conservation of the collection. Recommend objects for conservation treatment and secure funding for conservation initiatives.

Acquisition and Maintenance: Locate, research, and propose acquisition of Native American works of art. Review collections for potential deaccessions. Maintain knowledge of the art market and professional relations with dealers.

Community Engagement: Develop lectures and activities for the museum’s Native American Art Affinity Group. Foster relationships with trustees, donors, and the general public through community outreach.

Team Participation: Actively participate in broader museum initiatives through committees or specially formed teams.
