Position Overview

The Assistant Curator, based in Los Angeles, CA, plays a crucial role at LACMA by advocating for the European Painting and Sculpture department. Responsibilities

Support the installation of the permanent collection in the new Geffen Galleries, including preparing content for Collections Online.
Assist with large-scale exhibitions and manage smaller collection rotations. Tasks include research, selecting topics and objects, developing layouts and didactics, and overseeing installation.
Conduct advanced scholarly research contributing significantly to the field through exhibitions and publications.
Maintain contact with collectors, galleries, and the art market to enhance the collection through acquisitions and gifts.
Handle administrative duties such as responding to object inquiries, conducting collection research, and maintaining object files.

Benefits

Qualifications

Expertise in European Painting and Sculpture, especially Northern European art.
Minimum of 1-3 years of curatorial experience; an MA, ABD, or PhD is preferred.
Proven ability to work collaboratively.
Strong ability to engage with academic audiences and the public passionately and effectively.
